Get Your Chimney Ready For the Fall and Winter

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, August 23, 2012

You probably have not thought too much about your chimney this summer, and why should you. But as the fall approaches, you need to be sure that your chimney is safe to use in a month or so.

Not only can your fireplace and chimney can be a major source of cold air leaks in winter, it is the one of the most important parts of your fireplace too. Your chimney liner, flue and chimney cap need to be checked before winter.

Often in the spring and summer your chimney becomes home to animals or birds. You want to be sure those critters are no longer calling your chimney home before you light the fire. Also too, you need to be sure your damper is fully operational.

There is nothing worse than looking forward to a cozy warm fire, and instead suffering from a smoke filled home. This is the perfect time of year for a chimney sweep.

If it has been a long time since you had your fireplace chimney cleaned, contact The Fireplace Showcase.

Protect Your Chimney with Chimney Caps

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, May 31, 2012

The weather is warming up, and the wildlife is out in full force. This is the time of year to do some chimney maintenance. Your chimney looks like the perfect home for many birds and small animals.

Chimney caps are an integral part of the venting system for your fireplace and the venting system is an integral part of your overall fireplace system. Along with animals, the weather affects a chimney system the most. If chimneys are not correctly sealed, moisture gets into the cracks and seams and can ruin the chimney.

Brick chimneys are extremely susceptible. This is where chimney caps can provide extra protection. Chimney caps protect against all types of weather that can erode a chimney. Stainless steel chimney caps can really prolong the structural integrity of a chimney.

Birds and other animals are also harmful to your chimney system, all kinds of animals make their homes their.

The spring and summer is the perfect time of year to perform chimney maintenance while your chimney is not in service. If chimney caps are not in place the risk of damage from weather and animals is dramatically increased. Contact Fireplace Showcase for information on chimney caps.
