Importance of Annual Professional Pellet Stove and Chimney Cleaning

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, July 29, 2020
The Fireplace Showcase - Chimney Cleaning at Season End For A Safe and Efficient Hearth, Seekonk, MA

Every wood and pellet stove must be regularly cleaned to ensure optimal heating as well as the safe operation of the unit and to maximize the life of the stove. While the cleaning frequency depends on how much you use your wood pellet stove (how many bags of pellets per day/week/month), basic user maintenance should be accomplished weekly. A more thorough professional cleanout should be done after every ton of pellets burned.

On the other hand, annual professional chimney cleaning must be accomplished before the heating season begins. This makes summer the perfect time to accomplish the task as most people don’t think about doing this until the leaves start changing colors, or worse, the first Seekonk snow appears. That’s when you find the professional chimney cleaning services swamped and quite possibly forcing you to fire things up before it is adequately safe to do so. That is an avoidable risk.

We’ll follow in a future blog post the specifics of our chimney cleaning service. In the interest of keeping this post reasonably short, we’ll focus on the specifics of our annual pellet stove cleaning service:

Annual Professional Pellet Stove Cleaning involves:

  • Removal of pellets, the vacuum of debris, an inspection of hopper, auger plate, pressure and/or latch switches
  • Chimney sweep - clean/vacuum ash from liner and exhaust venting
  • Combustion and Convection Blowers: Clean, lubricate as needed
  • Auger motor: clean and lubricate as needed
  • Visual inspection of all electrical wiring, heat switches, and vacuum sensors
  • Cleaning of the entire firebox including burn pot, ignition assembly, exhaust ports, and heat exchangers
  • Inspection of the door seal and exhaust seals
  • Cleaning of stove glass door
  • Test electrical sensors and igniter for continuity and working order
  • Start-up of the stove to make sure all components are working properly

Fireplace Showcase - Napoleon Gril

In today’s blog post, let’s discuss some of the endearing features that make Napoleon grills a true American favorite.

Napoleon uses multiple metals as grill manufacturing best practices have evolved. Lower quality grill manufactures continue to use virtually all stainless steel within their constructs. Stainless steel will always be a vital component to quality grill manufacturing, but other metals prove much more effective within certain aspects of grill operations. Napoleon incorporates cast aluminum and porcelain enameled steel components in addition to stainless steel. .

The high-quality stainless-steel burners produce a high, even temperature and are essential to Napoleon’s success. But where food directly contacts the grilling surface, Napoleon incorporates porcelain coated cooking grates which deliver optimum direct-contact heat transfer.

Napoleon is also celebrated for their ignition system effectiveness and reliability. Other celebrated features include infrared rear burners, an infrared sizzle-zone burner, and a built-in ice bucket complete with cutting board. Another feature of Napoleon is its doubled lined smooth lift cover, which opens easily and helps hold in heat for oven-like cooking. It is amazingly comfortable to use and allows easy placement in assorted spaces.

The Napoleon line of grills are something to see and even better to use.  For more tips on Napoleon’s products, contact Fireplace Showcase.

The Green Egg Grill Has NOT Been Around for 3000 Years, But Its Cousin Has

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, July 08, 2020
The Fireplace Showcase, Big Green Egg Grill

A keystone of Middletown and Newport RI backyard cookouts is the Big Green Egg barbecue grill. It is perfect for amateur and master chefs alike, both of whom are serious about the caliber of their cooked meat. Based on ancient design precepts, the cooker combines dense ceramic walls with a build similar to that of an egg to hold in heat and reduce charcoal use. A single 20 pound bag of charcoal can fuel your Big Green Egg for four to six months.

The modern and updated version is actually based on a 3,000 year old Nipponese cooker called the Mushikamado. When an American airline pilot brought the traditional engineering back to the United States, he dubbed it the Kamado. In 1974, BGE began producing outdoor barbecues based on the Kamado's design principle and ceramic structure. The Big Green Egg combines grilling, barbecuing, and smoking powers for any kind of meat, fish, or veggies. Mufflers allow for precise control of the temperature from 50 degrees to 750 degrees. Smoking occurs at low temperatures between 150 and 250 degrees, whereas barbecuing commonly is executed at much hotter temperatures.

Many barbecue lovers claim the grill produces juicier, more tender meat since the ceramic exterior holds in moisture better than metal grills. Like other grills, the Egg comes with a variety of grill sizes, from 13 inches in grill diameter to 24 inches in grill diameter. The cooker is designed to allow for easy lighting even with strong winds, as well as easy charcoal replenishment and removal.
